Caves, Bridges and a Nature Hike

Before the kids started back to school last week, we finished the month of August with a day trip to the nearby Collingwood Scenic Caves.  We walked.  And walked.  And walked.  Up and down, over and under.  The caves were cool...literally and figuratively.

Of course, no cave outing would be complete without a few cool rocks to bring home, so panning we went.

The landscape needed to be seen from up high as well as from down below.

A great day of getting back to nature before getting back to school.

  2. What an amazing place - we only made it to Collingwood in winter (when it was very beautiful and snowy), and would have loved to have seen it like this.

    1. This was our first time doing the caves. My legs were killing me the next day!

You can see the Blue Mountain ski hills in one of the scenery shots. It's hard to believe that they'll be covered in snow in a few months!

  5. That was a great idea - getting back to nature before going back to school. And, it looks like you all had a blast. Panning for gemstones and that bridge way up high looked especially neat.

  9. I'd like to take the kids someplace like this. :) The mining looks fun, I bet my little one would love it.

There must be a lot of poison ivy in that spot to warrant a sign!

  18. What a gorgeous place for a family trip! I love the gemstone mining...I could while away hours there looking for shiny rocks. My boys would love the caves, but I'd find a nice bench with a view and wait outside for them :)
