Friday

My heart is heavy this morning.  My mind is full of thoughts for the families in our neighbourhood that lost so much last night.

Thankfully no one was hurt, and a dog trapped in one of the houses was rescued.  But the damage is extensive - one home destroyed, two more heavily damaged.  It will be a long time before life gets back to normal for these families.  Prayers and good thoughts appreciated.

It's Friday.  Thank you internet for providing some distractions.

How about a S'mores Party?

I think I need to make this Classic Oatmeal Cake with Praline Icing.

Interesting thoughts on kids and sports.

Homemade Pop Tarts, yes please!

And some real advice for our daughters, not just the old clichés.

Go and hug your loved ones, be grateful for what you have, and have a happy weekend.

  2. oh that is so horrible! the poor families. I hope that life gets back to normal for all involved as soon as possible. thankfully no one was hurt.
Love the idea of the S'mores party. I also saw an at home S'mores recipe where you put chocolate chips in the bottom of a pan, then layer marshmallows over top, put in oven until chocolate melts and marshmallows are browned: and then dip with graham crackers. yummy!

I have a travel themed wall too! great idea.

    1. I think the house is supposed to be demolished soon. The sooner they can rebuild the better.

Speaking of S'mores...while we were all standing around watching the fire, someone made a crack about bringing s'mores. It was funny in a really poor taste kind of way :)

  3. Horrible; I'm so glad no one, no human or animals got hurt! May the luck be with them in the up coming times.

  5. I am sending good vibes to the families. That is a big fear of mine is for my house or any of my neighbors houses to hatch fire.

  8. Oh, that's so tragic. We've had a few complete house fires in our area this year, but fortunately no one was home at the time. Still, it makes you realize that all can be lost in an instant.

On a lighter note, I was enjoying your links when I saw my own...thank you! What a nice surprise, and I'm glad you liked it. Off to check out the homemade pop tarts...
