In Denial

It's been September for over a week now.

Kids have been back to school since yesterday.

The first day of fall is still two weeks away, but summer is officially over.

And I am in denial.

I haven't flipped the calendar over.

I'm still wearing flip-flops.

I haven't ordered any pumpkin spice concoctions.

Despite the fact that sunset is now before 8pm, and there are red leaves showing off around the neighbourhood..

Instead I choose to re-live summer, flipping through my mental rolodex of the past two months.  Like days spent at Wasaga Beach.

And our weekend trip to Boston.

The seafood!  I could've eaten lobster rolls all day.  I really miss them.

I took 535 photos of whales.  Most of them look very similar to these.  I may have been slightly obsessed.

We ended our weekend on the beach at Good Harbor Beach.

We spent a fun day in Toronto, and thoroughly enjoyed Ripley's Aquarium.

The African Lion Safari was a great way to kick off summer.  Posts here, here, and here.

And a relaxing week at a cottage was the perfect way wrap up summer.

In the end we didn't accomplish everything on our Summer Bucket List, which I expected, but we did manage a bonus trip that we hadn't planned on.  All in all, it was a great summer.

  1. That seafood looks amazing! It is so hard to believe it is September already. I am ready for fall, but not ready for summer to be over!

    1. So many interesting buildings in Boston. If I wasn't so worried about being hit by a car, I'd have taken a lot more pictures of the architecture!

  4. I still wear my flip flops to the bus stop, and I am pretty much in shorts and a tank top still every day. we had a bit of a heat wave here, so summer hasn't quite left us yet. But the sun is down by 8 pm, so I know the change is coming. I can drink pumpkin spice in flip flops though! :)

    1. Last week was SO HOT, and the weekend was even hotter...not that I'd ever complain about the heat :) Yesterday was a lot cooler, but I was rocking flip flops at the rink last night... maybe next week I'll be ready for some pumpkin spice!

  5. I know what you mean -- good times of fun and travel and vacation and just being with one another, going from one place to another -- you just never want them to end. Memories are good, in their place, but we breathe in the present. And the challenge is to find the sweet aroma of life in each one of those breaths.

May you have a lovely fall, one of bright colors, and more good times with the people you love.

  6. It's no longer summer vacation, but it's still summer for two weeks, right? Go out there and make some homemade ice cream! And paint some rocks!

    Also. Whales. I'm speechless.

  8. Those whale photos! I love it!

Summer is over in here too and then suddenly afternoons are sunnier! But mornings are dark and cold now so as much as I want to deny it too... summer is over here =(

  11. What a great summer! I love the Bucket List idea....just haven't done it before. But I think I will for this fall and winter!

Enjoy the flip flops while you can. But enjoy the fall for me...I'm ready for it, but I live in the south...summer doesn't end temperature wise for another month or so!

    Have a great day!

  12. It doesn't seem possible that summer's over already, does it? Great photos - I know what you mean about seafood and whales. I've just come back from the east coast craving seafood chowder, and took way too many pics of whales in Australia (although you can never have too many)!

  13. Yes, yes, YES! Total denial here, too, flip flops and all (for when I am not in the office). Gorgeous photos! I don't blame you one bit for taking 535 photos of whales. I probably would have topped that. Because they're awesome.

  14. Very nice post! I seem to have got through most Australian winters with out any real need to stop wearing shorts - but this one was different!

I understand how you can take that many shots of whales - I go a bit crazy when I see them.

Glad you liked my wordy blog - feel free to share the link with anybody who you think may like it. Truth be told, its my first love in a blogging sense.

    cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
